Meet Etta. I adopted her just over a month ago, and she’s been an enigma.

On day 1, I opened her carrier and let her explore the whole house, and after about 10 minutes of patrolling, she came back to me, meowed, and that was it. Settled in.
I’ve had a few cats in my life, but never my own, and so it was a big commitment (I don’t like making those, see last 13 posts). It all started with a catch-up with Becks one Friday evening, and by the Monday I had adopted her.
She’s 11 months old, a teen mum, and likes to climb up high. Big foodie (although she doesn’t like butternut squash) and seems to like watching TV.
In my quest to find fun things for the cat that do not come at a high cost, I thought, what can I make that she can enjoy? Which is what led me to my current obsession with app development.
Working with Chip (I renamed ChatGPT because apparently even my AI needs a nickname), I researched where to start with learning how to develop an app, and it was surprisingly impressive. It provided me with all the software I would need to download, links to a Google learning platform and more.
I started the Google method, and by the end of the first chapter, I felt like I had learned everything and nothing at the same time. Not one piece of information stuck, because I was trying to learn a language in the way everyone else seems to be able to, but has never worked for me.
So I went back to Chip and asked for a 10-step teaching programme whereby the code is written by Chip, but I see every line and I am given the context of what the code is doing. By learning how to read the code, I will eventually be able to write it.
Thank god there’s no oral exam.

At work I have some cool tools to use to build prototypes, so I can visualise my requirements ahead of the design phase without having to pretend I have an imagination.
So what was my first project?
A treat tracker for Etta…which is now turning into a treat feeder.
Watch this space.
Peace out xoxo
