90’s music is an absolute passion of mine, and I am not ashamed of it. However, I recently attended a pub quiz, and I felt a little lost when it got to anything past 2006, so maybe it’s time again to start listening to more recent music. The problem with that is I always default to Country first, as that’s another passion of mine.
Every year from January to March, I listen to the latest album releases. It’s generally a quieter time of the year after the mad Christmas rush, and it’s manageable. It’s not necessarily successful; there are plenty of “Meh, I won’t bother with this album again” moments, with the odd exceptions. So the other approach is to wait until awards season, but I’d still be a year behind.
So my question is, how do you find new music?
Today I am listening to 90’s country (you can see maybe why I started writing this post), and the easiest way for me to do that is to find a Spotify playlist of the “Best of”, and if I find something I like the sound of, I’ll go and investigate. “I Should Have Been A Cowboy” – Toby Keith was the first on the list, a big crowd pleaser that has catchy lyrics, and I’ve heard it at every country event I’ve ever attended. So a good starter, followed by “Man, I Feel Like A Woman” – Shania Twain. Within two songs, I’m here for the whole playlist.
Shame I have to stop for meetings.
Peace out xoxo
