Cooking is something I thoroughly enjoy, especially since I have tried to be UPF free (as much as is possible without causing major burnout) for at least 2 years now, and with that comes a lot of cooking from scratch. I’ve been steadily building up my skills over the course of a lifetime, and my favourite things to make are sauces, because, unsurprisingly, they elevate most meals.
This week, I made pizza. The dough took me back to being in Italy at a pizza-making class, but instead of it reminding me of the awful dough I made, it actually looked and smelled like the real deal. I still have a lot to learn, but i’m pretty happy with what i’m able to create at home for my enjoyment.
My current food obsession is herbs and spices. I am trying to use up as much of my current collection as possible to finally feel at peace with standard-sized jars that look like they all belong together. My merry collection is a mishmash of supermarket versions, branded spices, and what i’ve collected from Borough Market over the years. My problem, and I suspect that I’m not alone on this, is that it drives me absolutely mad that I can never see what I have in my cupboard, that I accidentally buy duplicates because the damn cumin wasn’t in the same place, and not everything fits where I want it to.
I think what I’m actually chasing isn’t the perfect spice rack – it’s the feeling that I know what I’m doing.
But realistically, I’m still the same person who buys cumin twice and finds it three weeks later behind the cinnamon.
At least the food tastes good.
Peace out xoxo
